Bageshwar is a town and a municipal board in Bageshwar district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is to be found at a distance of 470 km from the National Capital New Delhi and 502 Km from the State Capital Dehradun. The area of Kumaon in Uttarakhand is not only rich in terms of royal attractiveness of the Himalayas but also for the colorful culture of this land. The town of Bageshwar is also blessed with all this loveliness and liveliness of this area. BagnathTemple - This favorable place is said to be visited by lord Shiva in the appearance of tiger (bagh), when Sage Markandey used to live here. So it got its name Baghnath temple and the city got its name as Bageshwar. In 1602 AD, the rulers of Chand dynasty had built this temple in Bageshwar. It seeks special attention during the month of shravana and witness the huge inflow of visitors here.

Gauri Udiyar : It is about 8 km from Bageshwar town. These huge caves, measured about 95 sq meters, have oldest idols of Lord Shiva.

Vijaypur : This place is to be found 30km away from Bageshwar on Chukori motor road on the breath taking high altitude of Uttarakhand. It offers, its visitors, a panoramic view of snow covered Himalaya.

Baijnath : Being an old temple of lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, it is 26km away from Bageshwar and has a significant place both in the History and Religion. It is to be found in Katyuri Valley on the banks of River Gomti, once the capital of Katyuri Dynasty.

Kanda : Being situated on the height of 1900 meter above sea level, Kanda is fringed by gorgeous mountains. This wonderful place is situated almost 25km from Bageshwar and its name is derived from one of its caste. This place has always been alluring the nature lovers.

How to Reach Bageshwar

Being a hilly place, it is well linked with road transportation. Buses and taxis are available from main cities and region like Kumaon and Garhwal. It is very reachable from Almora, Nainital, and Haldwani through buses and taxis. If you travel by Rail then your nearby station will be Kathgodam from where many trains join this area to other parts of country. It is also said to be gateway of Kumaon area. If you intend to board a flight, then Pantnagar in Nainital district has the nearest airport. Located at a distance of 180 Km, this airport is connected through many buses and taxis running on this road.
